Beta Service Status: Limited Availability I will beta almost any story that is of a type that I would want to read. Now, that's not to say that I don't think other stories aren't good, its just that they may not be to my taste. This makes sense for both of us, since I don't want to spend my time beta'ing a story I wouldn't even want to read, and who wants a beta that doesn't even like their story? ^_~ I will beta the following types of stories of almost any length: 1. Slash stories with Obi-Wan/Anakin as the major pairing. Other pairings are okay so long as Obi/Ani is the main one. 2. Gen stories with Obi-Wan and Anakin as the main characters. This means that neither of them is in a pairing, unless it is very minor background such as pre-existing Anakin/Padmé or it is solely as a plot device. I will also beta shorter stories of the following types: 1. Ewan/Hayden RPS, but I can't offer much help on the sex scenes and characterization. 2. Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan slash. By "short story", I mean one that's around ten pages or less if it is in the standard Times New Roman 12 pt font, and double spaced between paragraphs. The shorter the story (and the fewer errors, of course), the quicker I will get it back to you. If your story is only a couple of pages, I may get it back to you the next day. If you have a 30,000 word epic, though, it will take considerably longer. For multi-chapter fics, you can send them to me in pieces if you would like to get them back quicker to post. If your story is longer than 30,000 words, I may or may not want to beta it, but please contact me if you're interested in having a long story beta'd and I'll let you know. Before you send your story. . . 1. Run it through the spell check 2. Remember to capitalize proper nouns (including Master, Padawan, Force, etc) and the first letter of each sentence 3. Use quotation marks where necessary 4. Double space between paragraphs Aren't beta readers supposed to fix this kind of stuff, you ask? Well, yes, but only where you miss it, as will happen of course from time to time. These are the bare basics that any writer can and should do themself, and IMHO it's the job of a beta reader to fix these things when the writer misses them. If you can't do these things yourself, then I probably don't even want to read your story, let alone beta it. The main things you want your beta to do are look over your plot points and consistancy, check your characterizations, and fix any grammatical errors or other small things that you may have missed.
If you find my beta service to be helpful for your story, please remember to mention in your story's header that I beta'd it for you, as a matter of courtesy. Of course, if you don't like/use my advice and corrections then there's no need for that! ;) So, would you like me to beta your story for you? Then, just send your story as an attached file, preferably a .doc, (I use MS Word or Open Office). I should get back to you within a day or two!
